Why we built this
The standards are a floor. Most schools treat them like a ceiling.
By the end of second grade, a child is expected to know their single-digit addition facts from memory. By the end of third, their single-digit times tables. Those are reasonable targets for a classroom of thirty students at varying levels. They are nowhere near the limit of what most children can do.
A classroom must move at the pace of the room. That isn’t a failure of teaching, but it means a child who is ready for more spends critical time every year waiting instead of learning.
Our goal is to open the door for a child who’s good at math and to make it second nature while they’re still young enough for it to meaningfully change everything that comes after.
